A new year isn’t needed to set new goals, but during the hot, Australian summer when things slow down there’s space for the mind to wonder, plan, dream - and then ultimately, take action.
Goal 1: Use. All. Of. It.
We will attempt to use every last piece of fibre from the textile donations received here at Precious Again. We will continue to experiment with and monitor our attempts at:
-
keeping all fibres contained within the Precious Again studio until they are made into artworks. We will endeavour to ensure that all large scraps down to nano-fibres are used and are not discarded into landfill
-
hand-spinning yarn using only fabric scraps and fibres leftover from creating the artworks
-
making paper with the textile fibres too small for spinning into yarn
Goal 2: Transparency
We will aim to be transparent regarding any and all supplies purchased for use in the artworks and the running of the studio. We will do this in order to explicitly demonstrate to how reusing and up cycling is done at Precious Again. We will make the information easily accessible on the Precious Again website.
Goal 3: Inspire others to see the value in textiles
We hope to use Precious Again as a platform to gently inspire others to notice and appreciate the textiles they wear, live and work with. To revere the beauty, the materials and recourses used and the ingenuity of the fabrication of the textiles. From the moment the textiles are new to the owner, used for their purpose, through to when the textiles are unneeded and discarded.
This is what we will strive to achieve this year. They are big goals, but we have big ambitions. We hope you will join us.
