It breaks my heart to see beauty wasted. Stunning silks in every colour you can imagine, intricate laces, hand-beaded tulle, the tiny pieces left over when the garment pieces leave the cutting room. I’ve always had a soft spot for these unwanted treasures - scraps of fabric and embellishments that are too small for anything ‘useful’ except for landfill.
After spending my life playing and experimenting with textile waste, here I am, finally making a business from it.
Sequins and Swarovski crystals swept off the floor, cleaned sorted and ready to use. Salvages from cashmere and angora coating. Balls of tangled embroidery thread. Ripped and frayed lace. Saved basting thread.
Is this a lot of work? Yes. Are these scrap pieces ‘worth’ it? Yes. They are already here in the world, taking up space. Better that they take up space in an artwork then landfill or floating in the oceans as microfibres and microplastics. Beauty wins! x
